What is Retama and what do we do?

Retama Park is a horse race track, also featuring simulcast betting.

We run a booth on the club house level, and on 50¢ Nights another booth downstairs outside of the main entrance (right side of entrance).

Our outside booth sells only beer ($1.00), soda (50¢), and hot dogs ($1.00). This booth makes money based upon sheer volume. Sales are normally over $3500. Due to the number of sales it takes a minimum of 7 people to properly run it.

Our inside booth is open Fridays and Saturdays and is the only booth on the clubhouse level. The merchandise is more diverse with beer (two sizes), soda, hot dogs, fruit drinks, water, candy, chips, frito pies, nachos, pretzels, and some special items on occasion. The volume is less than downstairs, but with more variety the sales are around $1500.

With both of the booths we get a percentage of the sales (15% downstairs and 20% upstairs after TABC sales tax and Selma/Texas sales tax). On a normal weekend (one 50¢ night and one regular night) our profits, with tips, are over $1000.

The normal start time is 5:00 p.m. and we usually shutdown at about 10:30. At that time we inventory our supplies, count the money and clean up. The people who work downstairs are usually able to leave around 11:00 and the people upstairs around 11:30 (more to inventory and clean up).
