Meals on Wheels
This is a great opportunity to help the local community and brighten someone's day. You don't have to be a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association to volunteer.

What is the purpose of Meals on Wheels?
Meals on Wheels, through volunteers and staff, delivers a hot nutritious meal to homebound seniors. As the cost of housing, prescription drugs and overall health care continues to rise faster than incomes, the request for food assistance continues to increase. All of the seniors we serve are homebound due to chronic illness or a health crisis. Many live alone and are dependent on others for help with daily necessities. The fastest growing segment of our population is seniors over the age of 60.
Some people may need a temporary solution while recuperating from an illness. For others, it is the answer to maintaining independence, and continuing to live in their own homes. It is our purpose to provide a well-balanced, hot meal and personal contact to the homebound elderly of Bexar County. During FY 2002, Meals on Wheels proudly provided 469,449 meals. What we do makes a difference.
When is it?
Every Mother's Day and Thanksgiving Day
What do we need?
10 people to help direct traffic. They'll need to show up at 0800, should finish by 1200.
15 people to load food onto trucks and then unload the food from the trucks to the delivery drivers, showtime is the same as above.
Drivers, as many as we can provide. Last year, they asked for 20, and we provided over 30. This year, CSS plans on serving over 2000 meals, and requires 330 drivers to do this. Drivers will need to show up between 8:45 and 10:15, depending upon the information they receive on their designator card (your mailing address is needed). Drivers normally finish between 1300-1400 depending upon how many meals they deliver and how far they have to go.
